What’s hot and what’s not for those tying the knot this year?
The biggest words of the season are ribbons and lace. No, you don’t need to look like an 80′s throwback but somewhere in your plans you must include ribbons and lace to keep up with modern trends.
Designer wedding dresses have been paraded up and down the catwalk absolutely dripping with ribbons. These maybe around the waist, under the bust or trailing from the train. Some quirkier designers have also used ribbons in hair up styles. Of course, unless you are a model, you could look a bit silly on your big day if you go to these lengths.
Wedding dress trends can look dated very quickly and if you want to look back at your pictures without being horrified go for something more subtle. A great way to use ribbons successfully is to incorporate them in your bouquet and other floral decorations.
If you have a large frame or are short, trailing ribbons from your bouquet will add length making you look taller and slimmer. Team colours of your ribbons with those on favour boxes to ensure consistency. You could also choose wedding stationery and place cards that have ribbons on them to add to the idea.
Young bridesmaids can carry off trends better than older ones, so don’t be afraid to give them a hairstyle that includes lots of ribbon. For older bridesmaids, perhaps choose co-ordinating ribbons and tie them to dorothy bags or drawstring pouches.
If you’re a super sexy bride [and blessed with great legs] why not choose bridal shoes with ribbon that you can lace up around your ankles?
And, if you want something trendy that’s for his eyes only, go for a few ribbons on your garter. Guaranteed to impress your groom!!!
Of course, on a more traditional note, lace is the big thing this season too. Beware though, because if you don’t get it right, you could look like you’ve just stepped out of a charity shop. The key – as with any bridal gown – is in the shape.
The material plays a big part, but if you get the shape right, you can carry off any material you want. If you don’t want to go for a completely lace dress, why not keep up with the trends with lace gloves, a lace train or a lace veil?
Team the romantic theme with classical flowers and favours and you’re onto a winner. Again, if you only want to give the suggestion of lace, choose bridesmaid dresses with lace ties. Ensure the men aren’t left out and get them to sport lace handkerchiefs in their top pockets – if you dare.
Don’t be left looking frumpy this year – be the bride with her finger firmly on the pulse and ensure you incorporate ribbons and/or lace somewhere in your plans!

This year wedding trends carry a common theme – personality and individual style. Brides want their wedding to reflect not only current trends but their own taste. As always, attention to detail is what makes the event special and the couple stand out. Even when they seem like the same old, there are unique unexpected twists in wedding trends this year. Don’t plan a wedding without reading these suggestions.
Whether you’re a wedding planner or a DIY bride, watch these 3 trends:
1. All white wedding cakes.
This year white wedding cakes that have a classic look are popular right now. Even off-white is popular in simple lines. To pull in some color, add an interesting flower, ribbon or detail. It will really pops against a white backdrop.
Our choice? A few red zinnias that really pop.
2. Wedding candy buffet.
This trend continues to be popular – and is practically timeless. Use different shaped clear bowls, martini glasses and containers full of candy. Buy candy in bulk that fits the color scheme of your wedding. Tie bows around the tall glass vases. Make each a different height so they are staggered. There are 2 approaches to this. Either display all of the candy in one place or disperse on each table so guests can sample candy from each table as they mingle and talkcor and on centerpieces. Add a scoop and bags so guests can take some candy home with them. How much candy do you need? It depends on the size and how many containers, but as a general rule we suggest 1/2 lb. per person.
Our choice? If white is the theme, find white candy in bulk. Then find containers of all heights and sizes to fill with candy. White jelly beans, white gummy bears and white salt water taffy complete the look. Then bunch fabric on the table and arrange flowers to complete the look.
3. Photo booths – with a personal twist.
Just getting a professional photographer won’t give the desired look – today’s bride is adding scenery and props. Have different backdrops (like a sheet of fabric). Bring props like feather boas, hats or fake mustaches. Or, try a vintage look. Find candy that matches the theme – so if it’s a beach wedding, choose tropical flavored candy – coconut, pineapple and tutti fruiti!
Our suggestion – Rather than posed photos, be sure guests can use their own imagination and bring home a memento from your wedding. Encourage them to pull out their cell phones and snap their own photos and then add them to your online photo album or email them to the couple. Then use the pictures for a photo album memory book or upload them to a site like Photobucket or Flickr. No need for a guest book when you have pictures of the guests!
Again, pay attention to small details because these are what set your wedding apart from the rest and make it uniquely yours. This is what creates lasting memories. These elements add to the wedding by giving everything a personal touch. Everything should reflect who you are as a couple.
Weddings bouquets and wedding floral arrangements can be very expensive, no matter what limited budget, money-saving tips and tricks you use. Many brides have wondered if they need to get their flowers from a professional wedding florist, and toy with the idea of making their own wedding bouquets and arrangements. The answer is Yes, you can have flowers even within an inexpensive wedding budget. You can Do it Yourself on wedding flowers and significantly hold down the cost of wedding flowers.
Is Doing Your Own Wedding Flowers for You?
First of all, if doing floral arrangement, much less wedding flower arrangements, is something you have never done before, or if you do not enjoy designing arrangements and working with flower for hours, then DIY wedding flowers is not for you. On your wedding day, you will be more stressed out than you have ever been before, and to add an onerous and difficult task like arranging flowers might be more than you can take. But if you have got experience with floral design and it is something you really like doing, then it might work for you.
Do Not Try to Do It All Yourself – Please Get A lot of Help!
The first thing you will need to do, if you need and want to attempt DIY Wedding Flower arrangements, is to recruit a number of talents, dedicated and patient supportive family members and friends. You and your team select the flowers, and then assemble the arrangements and bouquets the morning of the wedding (and some beforehand). Fresh floral arrangements do not last long, and there is no way you can make them all by yourself on the morning of your wedding day.
Basics of Wedding Floral Design within a Inexpensive Wedding Budget
If you are confident you can do your own wedding flowers and you havee got a crew to help you assemble and transport them, it???s time to start researching. Scour dozens of bridal magazines, attend multiple weddings, and visit several local florists to gather wedding flower ideas. Also educate yourself on the basics of wedding floral design:
Learn about basic color theory. Take time to study a color wheel and totally familiarize yourself with essential color concepts like complementary, analogous, and monochromatic colors.
Bridal bouquets come in four basic shapes: crescent, round, hand-tied, and freeform. You need to know what flowers to use, how to shape a bouquet, arrange it, and tie it.
The bridal bouquet should be designed first, followed by the smaller bridesmaids bouquets and then the corsages and boutonnieres. Elements color and design elements of the bridal bouquet should be echoed in all other wedding floral arrangements.
Think About and Practice Creating Your Bouquet Ahead of Time
Think about exactly what you want your wedding bouquet to look like in advance and sketch it out (even if you can not draw). Once you have an idea of what you like, do a dry run of making the bouquets and arrangements with either fake or fresh flowers. Please make totally sure you are satisfied with it and you know all the supplies that are required and that you have all of those supplies.
Where The Best Place is to Buy Your Wedding Flowers?
When you are buying a large or even modest quantity of flowers for yourself, there are a number of options available to buy flowers. For buying large order, wholesale flowers vendors (in the Flower District) are usually the best deal place to get the flowers your need at a good price. There are some online flower companies sell and deliver flowers overnight, or you can always order them in bulk through your local florist. Just do not forget to order all the greenery and filler that you will need for your bouquets and arrangements in addition to the flowers.
